Clemma and Sterling Elmore have been together for nearly six decades, according to Oklahoma photographer Stacy Welch-Christ. She recently captured their picture-perfect romance in a shoot that’s been shared close to 50,000 times since Saturday.
The two lovebirds still say “I love you” to one another at least 10 times every day, an Australian publication reported. Their commitment isn’t something they take for granted.
“You have to work at marriage. Marriage is an inspiration if you treat it right, Clemma told the photographer, who was smitten by how cute the couple was."“Their sweet kisses and the way he would guide her to make sure she wouldn’t stumble and fall, and when she was getting up into the truck — it was just like you’d imagine the perfect gentlemen doing.”
Even though Welch-Christ was the one who chose The Notebook theme, the scenes resonated with the couple.
“[They were] just so us… I had colon cancer in ’94 and I was thinking about that taking the pictures. You know when she was dying with Alzheimer’s. He [Sterling] took such good, loving care of me all through my chemo and everything. He was my rock,” Clemma told KOMO News.
Sterling reportedly knew Clemma was “the one” from the moment he first saw her. In a little love letter snapped during the shoot, he wrote she’s “God’s gift” to him.
Clemma’s note described her husband as her “life” and “true love.”
She was apparently brought to tears after seeing the photos, which she said she’ll remember for the rest of her life. They show the grey-haired pair holding hands, stealing kisses and gazing adoringly at each other.
“They give us hope and that love is worth working through, and for,” the photographer said of the pair.“I believe in capturing moments and looking to them for inspiration and the legacy that we leave…what does it say about us? Did we choose a legacy of love?
“I hope my photos have captured those moments that we do choose love, so when there are tough times…we can look to them for inspiration to keep trying.”
The two will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary in February.
